I am hoping that the colorful thin wires on left box might be unique enough that someone would recognize. The wires on right looker thicker so may be 220V?????
Pretty sure they are both electrical outlets. No, don't thank me...
I assume you can't ask the previous owner? We had a very confusing box on our house, turned out after asking previous owners, they asked the previous-previous owners and it was for a hot tub that had been removed...
Looks like a pair of lines to the outdoor condensing unit...
220 wiring isn't necessarily heavier gauge... but the black tape on the white wire does usually mean it's been used as a "hot" wire... and two hots plus a ground does seem like a good candidate for a 220 circuit to the condensing unit...
Is the AC unit a mini split? I seem to recall some mini splits having a low voltage cable between the indoor and outdoor units...
My A/C unit has at least one low voltage control cable going to it that allows the A/C to be turned off briefly at peak times by the electric company.
Honestly I'd try and trace where the low voltage cables are going. Good chance most of them do nothing. It's pretty typical to install a cable with more individual wires than you need.
The lines wrapped in tape right below the box in question prove it is for AC. I have no idea what the wiring in the box on the left is for but it is low voltage.
Might want to check the seals on those boxes because spiders found a way in. That means humidity can get in also.
Donβt be tempted to clean it out with a garden hose.
The high side line is unprotected and is sticking out like a sore thumb. I would make something to cover it.
And my OCDP noticed the box on the right is not parallel to the box on the left..
Must be where the HVAC was originally because there is a patio and our sliding glass door are right next to those outlets now. One of the previous owners added the garage with 2 bedrooms above with additional HVAC because there is a Thermostat just for those 2 bedrooms. The HVAC equipment currently sits on side of house.
Betcha that's it. Especially how the low voltage looks very much installed with the AC line set. Check upstairs in the attic for the other end of the low voltage where the air handler & coil unit would have been set. They may just be hanging on a rafter.
If you're curious check for power. I bet the breaker or breaker slot in your panel was used for subsequent AC install so those wires might not be hot nor ending in a breaker. BUT DON'T assume that.
