Waterproof Smart Lock

Hello,

Moving into a new home and starting from ground zero, but am going to use Hubitat as my starting point.

The house has a exterior gate/door and would like to make to put a smart lock on it, as we don't plan to have any keys. Wondering if someone has a recommendation that might be waterproof. Not like we get a ton of rain in Southern California.

Thanks

Michael

I have a Yale Smart Lock on an outside garage door that has a minimal eave high above. It gets full rain as far as I know.

"Most Yale smart locks, particularly the keypads designed for outdoor use, typically have an IP55 rating, meaning they are dust-proof and can withstand water jets, making them suitable for outdoor conditions"

I would expect most smart locks to be similar because "outdoors" is a large part of the definition of door locks.

A door like this?
Might need a cover of some sort on the other side.

Beautiful gate you have, and something similar. Maybe I will just put a sensor on it so I know if it was opened.

Not mine, just an internet grab.
No gates here, just bush.

The Zooz 41 is popular for outdoor (with case) applications.

Or there's the outdoor Ring as well.

Yes, similar. In the background of that pic, on the left is a eave and I assume it's over a door. Mine's like that door. The eave might protect the door if the rain is falling straight down, but any wind and the rain is swirling around or slanting in directly. The IP55 rating means it can be hit with a hose to rinse it off.

I'd check out Level.co - I don't have 1st hand experience but their product looks really cool and they even have a retro-fit to use with an existing deadbolt. Given the product design with all the "smarts" inside the door I'd assume the weather is a non issue.

Very Cool Lock .. But Big $$$ lol

A bit more sure, but not a lot more than some of the other major brands

If you want to go the Level route, I suggest you take a hard look at the reviews on Amazon.

They are amazing locks in almost all respects. Not all of the design aspects are the good kind of amazing though. I have a Level Lock - Touch Edition that I replaced because of its poor performance and it doesn't appear that their latest product line is that much of an improvement. But Level has marked the Touch Edition down from $329 to $99 so at least they seem to be acknowledging its actual value now.

Depending on your expected setup and ability to find a really good deal, you could develop a fairly nice solution with a Level Bolt and a Level Keypad. The Level Bolt comes in multiple flavors (bluetooth, wifi, matter) but the Keypad supposedly works with all of them. And if you just use the Keypad to lock and unlock the door I imagine that could be an effective solution that doesn't cause the frustration you might experience relying on any of the other technologies to operate the lock.

Oops, clicked on "Reply to thread", should have used "Reply to Post' to link it directly to the op.
Pretty sure my Yale lockset wouldn't survive long if both sides were fully exposed to the elements on a Gate Door like the one pictured.
