Watercop valve inclusion tips

Trying to move my Watercop valve over to HE. I've ecluded it from ST, and then did an exlusion from HE and the valve is blinking as it should when ready to include. I've tried about 10-15 inclusion runs and it just ain't happening.

The valve is about 6' from a Zwave repeater (through one wall) the repeater (Eva Logik plug) is then five feet from a Zwave wall switch, which has two more Zwave switches on the other side of that same wall, and then more switches in the family room several feet away, etc. So there is plenty of Zwave mojo around.

Hub is about 15-20' away through 1 wall and a window (I moved it as close as I could w/the current length ethernet cable I have).

Aside from getting the crazy long ethernet cable so I can put the hub on top of the watercop valve, any suggestions?

I'm going to run a Zwave repair, reboot, and then try again to see if that has any effect.

It paired up easily to my SmartThings hub using the same configuration of zwave repeater and in-wall switches, etc., so I know it can do it.

which hub are you using? C-7?

im about to do the same so keep me informed.. I have to finish moving the garage and then i will do the basement after i get the switches and repreater I will do my watercop valve.. then finally the water sensors

Yeah, sorry, forgot to include that. C7 w/2.2.3.119.

Did the zwave repair, it completed w/out any issues. Rebooted.

Still unable to include the Watercop.

Mine went fast and easy. C7 fully updated.

When it’s ready for inclusion 4 blinks?

You can remove the actuator from the valve to move it closer.

Yeah, it's been four-blinking for the last couple hours.

Damn, looked at this again and I do remember that it comes off.

I’ve discovered that after about the 10th time that I used the crazy long internet cable that I’ve gotten pretty good at coiling up a crazy long internet cable. I’ve also discovered that the crazy long internet cable works best when my wife is not at home.

Good Luck

LOL...you are absolutely correct, uncoiling/coiling skills will be key, and stealth is highly advised.

The last time I used a crazy long internet cable in front of her I had to endure several days of sarcastic humor about how wonderfully smart my smart home must be, since it relies on modern 1990's ethernet technology. C'mon HE, you're making me look bad...

Victory is mine! Or, to paraphrase, all my water valves are belong to me.

Moved the hub to about 8' away from the valve (much easier to move hub than remove the valve) and tried to pair w/the valve actuator mode light blinking four times quickly. No joy, just like last night, no reaction/inclusion.

Unplugged and plugged the valve back in, started inclusion, touched the mode button once, and BOOM, joined like it was dying to be a part of the team.

So maybe last night all my failures were that the valve wasn't really trying to join, even w/the four blink happening...the reboot and single touch on mode did it.

Just happy to have it done, now need to bring over all my leak sensors and restore my leak warnings/valve shut-off automations.

Oh man. You didn’t press the button on the valve?

Yeah the button will join or exclude depending if the hub is in join or exclude.

Hey, where were you when I needed that info yesterday!!

Happy ending is good.

@danabw how do you like the watercop valve?

I’m looking into water shutoff valves for the first time so trying to sort out my options.

Yes, it seems very robust, and I like that I have both manual and push-button control at the valve itsefl, as well as remote control/automation via HE. It's actually worked as expected when we had a leak a while back, and the valve turned off w/out issue.

Once I figured out the right steps it pairs well w/HE.

I had it for a year or more before installing it (lazy) so I've only been using it for a year or so (first on ST and now on HE), but at this point I would buy another if I needed additional shut-off valves.

It is a bit bulky so you'd need to make sure you have room to install it where you need a valve.

If you're prepared to consider zigbee, I would recommend the LeakSmart. I've had one for ~5 years and it has never failed, and has never dropped off Hubitat. You can find them new on eBay for ~$75. There is a newer LeakSmart Pro valve, so the older LeakSmarts can be found at a good price. I use an NR sequence to "exercise" the valve once a week.

Edit: Mains powered with battery backup. If the controller fails, there is a manual method to control the valve. Also, I have mine installed outdoors - without an enclosure (although wrapped in plastic) - so it definitely durable.
