That’s a good idea and pretty! I just have a paper towel the idea is even if the sensor isn’t smack dab on the spot, the paper towel absorbs it and at some point gets wet enough to trigger the sensor (which is what happened!)
That's what I do as well, I have a paper towel underneath the sensors which is sitting underneath the sink piping or whatever might leak. That seems to work well, one of the two leaks we caught was a slower one that eventually got the towel wet enough that it set off the sensor. Without the towel the amount of water might have simply dried up before making a big enough impression to alert us to a potentially bigger problem on the way.
I use a tissue or toilet paper to find slow drips that may be evaporating before I see a wet spot. The tissue will pucker where it was wet.
I also use a strip of paper towel to wick moisture from cracks & hard to see spots out to a sensor.
I have 14 water sensors and a water valve in my house.
The most important rule that I have is the one where I turn on the water alarm and every 15 minutes I send out notifications, email, etc. And, until the water alarm is turned, notifications keep on going out.
I have one of these under our kitchen sink and a neo coolcam water sensor. It's caught some leaks. For our bathrooms I just throw them under the vanities...
For our bathrooms: one under each vanity sink, one behind each toilet.
I have 2 young kids, the ones behind the toilet would be bad because the kids would pee on them all the time and keep turning off the water valve
This is what I have too except more annoying. Like every minute I got so annoyed and was like “Who the heck keeps blowing up my phone?!?! I don’t even know that many people!!!”
Bahahaha!
I didn't know there was such a thing! Thanks.
I have the homeseer (rebranded leak gopher) valve.
There are many of them out there though, depending if you're looking for one to turn an existing quarter-turn valve, or a brand new inline valve.
I use these. They come in both z-wave and zigbee and come with a 56" external probe if you want to mount it up high. They are also compatible with the Honeywell rope.
Showed to my wife and you should have heard the "Oooooooo...." that resulted. I think Amazon/mat company owes you a percentage.
lol, sorry about that, too bad I don't have a referral account on Amazon
lol when I saw it, I was like “Oooooo” I may replace all my paper towels one day
The price of the Tuya sensors on AliExpress are so good, every leak point has 2 sensors,
My current update projects is to replace multiple leak sensors (with paper towels under) with leak sensing cables and adding power supplies (not sure should I keep batteries as well). This will significantly increase sensing (protected) areas with only 3 sensors vs currently installed 12. Unfortunately there is no way to install shutoff valves (4 main water lines in apartment). But just an intime notifications will do the job.
