Water Leak Sensors Working! 🥳

I’m probably got way too excited, but I ran to my husband and was like, “We have a leak! Did you see the hub notification?! It works!!”
Him: “Why are you so happy we have a leak…?”

Hopefully not serious.
I've had a leaking drain joint under the kitchen sink.
I've also had a sprayer hose leak at the same location.
Both, slow acting, relatively speaking, since neither was under constant pressure.
If a pipe under pressure springs a leak, things could go bad....fast.
I have mine turn off water supply upon detection of leak.
I also use dumb water detectors that make a lot of noise...no phone required.

I had a fun event just last night!

Was doing dishes, and all of a sudden no water...

Turns out that the garbage disposal internal casing split when I used it right before dish washing, and it started leaking. Sensor under the sink detected that quickly, and closed my water supply valve.

This is the THIRD time my leak sensors have successfully helped minimize a real leak/water event for me. The automated water supply valve I put in has been worth EVERY penny I spent having it installed.

I don’t think it was anything serious as we couldn’t even tell where it was coming from lol. Like you said, slow acting so we just put another paper towel and will just observe when it triggers again lol

I've had a trigger from excessive/exuberant use of the sink's pull out faucet sprayer during wash up with just enough water getting on the hose to then drip onto the sensor.

Fun times.

I have plastic tubs under the sink to hold misc containers, brushes, etc.
(I couldn't find a tub big and shallow enough to fit.)
They also contain errant water....to a point, lol.
Of course, you have to have a sensor in each, as well as outside.

Here's a pic. You can see the Zooz sensors as well as the dumb alarms.
I didn't practice what I preached though.
I have a dumb alarm on the outside of the bins (not in picture), but no sensor!
I'll have to fix that.
This thread was a positive for me!

Good catch! Even slow drips can cause issues…

I have water sensors all over the place. On day, I got a notification related to the one under my tub. I’ve had a pinprick leak in one of my pipes before which created quite a bit of damage… but this time, there was an issue with the overflow seal, and someone had filled the tub up to it, creating a leak.

Was great that it was caught and fixed quickly, before damage could result!

My wife asked me how many we had the other day, and even I was surprised when I counted them up. But...they have saved us twice now (once while we were away from home) by turning off our main water valve when the leaks were detected.

Civilians will never understand us...

It would be nice if mine made at least a little chirping noise so that I could find them!

I can only use silent leak sensors, pet issue. If there is any repeating electronic beeping/noises one of our dogs shuts down completely. Tail does tightly down, starts shivering all over, runs from door to door to try to get out of the house, completely stressed/panicked. I can't imagine if we weren't home to turn off the beeping and help calm her down. So no noisey leak sensors, only Google Home announcement and phone Pushover notification (which don't seem to bother her as they don't repeat over and over).

I guess you don't test your smoke detectors.

LOL...they self-test once a month, I have the timing set for one when we commonly walk the dogs, but if she's home we have to immediately take her outside for a while and tempt her back in w/food once she's settled a little.

And I thought raising kids was work...

hooray for the sensor working and notifying, sucks for the actual issue

Search for these Zigbee sensors – they take two AAA batteries and beep, as well as sensing water on the bottom and top (for slow dripping leaks):

May I ask the make/model, please?

Our little girl has been scared of every-damn-thing and we've made good progress in dispelling her fears. What we do is get her in a comfy, cozy position and then introduce a source of fear while it is quiet and just let her explore it of her own accord. When that gets to be passe (and it could be days) then we'll have it make a brief noise and again let her explore of her own accord. Before long she ignores the thing altogether.

Good luck. YMMV

pressure leak

One of the best 'smacks forehead" tips I've seen here is to have an outside valve (garden hose, etc) open when the hub shuts the main valve. This will quickly release the pressure and should reduce the leak to just a drip.

I installed under sink mats and then test to see if water pools up in a corner, if it does, I place the water leak sensor in that corner, else I will put it near where the most probable place a leak might start. These work great, keeps everything clean and every year we take out, clean it and back in it goes. Search for "under sink mat" on your favorite website.
