Water leak sensor substitution

I have a Sinope water heater controler. It support hooking up a cable water leak sensor. Sinope sells one as an accessory and it cost quite more then I wish to spend on that.

I was wondering if a small (cheap) sensor like this would work instead?

My guess is that yes, it would work. The difference between the two is that the Sinope one can register water throughout the length of the (blue) cable where the other one will only register water on the tip.

Yes they don't offer the same coverage but my worry is about voltage restriction or something of the sort. I don't know enough about this stuff to acertain their compatibility. All I see is the plug is the same and the price is right: 3$

At $3, I would buy and test it out.

The Honeywell Resideo RCHWES4/U RCHWES4 Wi-Fi Water Leak Detector Rope Sensor , White costs about 15 bux and works great with any water sensor with an input like the Tuya water sensors. I have one under my kitchen sink.

should be fine , 99% of water sensors use a simple open/closed circuit. If water completes the circuit=wet.
As long as the male connector matches/fits. You could even make your own with a jack and a couple pieces of wire

Just an addendum to this thread on substitution or modification....

While some vendors such as Sinope have "remote sensor pucks" that plug in to the main module to offer two points of water sensing....

DON'T thinking you can plug one of these "soaking sensor cables" in line with that remote EVEN THOUGH the size of the plugs are the same.

The way the below pictured module is designed is by the water shorting TWO poles and thus the plug has TWO poles. Those "soaking cables" have three poles as you can see by the plug !

All three pictures above show 3 poles plugs. According to your statement they should be compatible, aren't they?

YES YES, they should be.

I was just sayin.... there ARE moisture sensor modules out there that have plug jacks that accept corded remote sensors (as the link I put up).

It is easy enough to think "if the plug fits then it'll work".

I was just pointing out ....for future readers....that it is easy to overlook the tip configuration of these plugs that make them incompatible.
