Water flow sensor

Hi all,

I'm looking for a device that can be attached to a shower hose to sense if there is water flowing/not flowing threw it.

Zigbee/z-wave, hubitat compatible and waterproof is a must.

Is there such a device?

Thanks!

You want this on the hose vs the pipe connected to the hose bib?

Sorry, i didn't understand your question.

I want to start a timer that will run after opening the water in my shower.

You can mount a vibration sensor to the shower head to detect acceleration. It works reliably for me in two different showers.

What vibration sensor are you using? Is it waterproof?

I am using just a Motion Sensor strategically placed in the shower area. No, it does not detect any water flow but if somebody in the shower area 99.99% shower is used (i.e. water is flowing).

Yep, this is what I do too.

I had low expectations when I originally thought of doing this, but it works surprisingly well and very reliably.

I use a Third Reality vibration sensor. It's not waterproof, but no adverse effects to it so far (been in place for a couple years now).

I use the SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor

Its sits on top of the shower heads, so it doesn't get that wet. No issues there.

What about a water leak detector? They are usually waterproof so you could throw it in the bottom of the shower. There are also Zigbee water detectors that have a cable for the sensor, so the cable could be put so the sensor prongs catch water spray from the showerhead when it is on.

That's a good idea for detecting the start of the shower. Might be more difficult to detect when the shower stops, because leak sensors can take some time to read as dry. Perhaps the prong sensors would work better for that.
