Wall mounted tablet as dashboard - power from thermostat?

I'm nearly done with design of my HE dashboard and have ordered wall mounting plate and planning USB for power.
The best location to install the tablet on the wall happens to be right by a thermostat. IIRC it draws from either 17v or 24v power transformer.
Is there any reason I couldn't tap into my wall mounted thermostat to power my 5v USB cable to the tablet?
Thanks for any guidance or advice!!!!

Off-hand, the obvious piece is that you'd need another transformer to drop the voltage to 5v. From there, it's just a question of how many amps you can pull vs how many amps the tablet needs to remain charged.

Common or "C-Wire" thermostats are 24 VAC, so there's that to consider... I'm not sure you can find a buck converter that will take 24 volt AC....

Good point. Here's one.

Cool, I might pick one up. You never know when I might need one, thanks! Giving me ideas about an unused Fire 8 HD tablet that's collecting dust, lol.
