Variable Names have always been Case Sensitive

Use of %VariableName% in a rule seems to have been case sensitive for a few releases now - is that intentional?

Here is an example (RM5.1):

Iā€™ve been noticing some of my notifications reporting ā€œnullā€ for a certain time and I just got to checking the reason a few days ago. Noticed that the variable name is now case sensitive. I suspect it wasnā€™t some releases back when I created the rules since, as I recall, they would speak the value and not null.

They have always been case sensitive.

Dating back to root origins in Rule 4.0, and Rule Machine Legacy, they have always been case sensitive.

Pretty much everything in the hub is case sensitive. Groovy itself is case sensitive, as is Java.
