Good morning to everyone. I'm moving into a new home and want to install a smart thermostat. But, I want to use third party presence sensors in other rooms rather than the motion sensors that most smart thermostats have as their own. Casein point. I really like the ecobee thermostats but find that their room sensors are next to useless. They keep reporting unoccupied even when I'm in the room.
So, my question is this: what smart thermostat should I employ so that I can set it up using third-party presence sensors? I am protocol agnostic. Z-Wave, zigbee, matter, I don't really care as long as it's local control and not something that has to go to a remote server.
This sounds like a good case for using a mm-wave presence sensor and some rules to use that for the thermostat. See this topic for suggestions on how to use the presence to control the thermostat.
