Using 2 delays to stagger events

Good day all. If a contact sensor is opened I would like RM to wait 10 seconds and then turn on my INSIDE (2Alarm02Inside) siren. If a contact sensor is opened I would like RM to wait 20 seconds and then turn on my OUTSIDE (2Alarm01Outside) siren.

In other words; the inside triggers 10 seconds after initial event; outside triggers after 20 seconds after initial event. Does this rule look correct? Thanks for taking time to take a look at my rule, greatly appreciated.

That should work for you. The inside alarm will start 10 seconds after the contact opens and sound for 30 seconds. The outside alarm will start 20 seconds after the contact opens and sound for 20 seconds.

Thanks, Tom. I was not sure if the second alarm would start from the initial event or be delayed by timing of the the first inside alarm.

Yes, those commands execute sequentially.

A different way would be:

  • On alarm1 delay 10
  • On alarm2 delay 20
  • Off alarm1, alarm2 delay 40

This would run quickly, queuing up those commands to run after their own delay(s).

But for your situation, I would do it like you did.

Good information.
