It's a hack. This isn't an electronics engineering advice site, it's a community forum for home automation of a particular hub. I had mine powered, so I never worried about the battery drain. I'm not an electronics engineer, I just posted what worked to trigger the device. People viewing this thread can see your "correct" way of doing things, and you can save them from mortal danger.
