[UPDATED] iPhone WiFi Presence Sensor

I think that was it. I didn't have a static IP.
Made the change when we got home. See what happens next time

This is required, also on current gen phones they mask the MAC address to prevent Wifi tracking so you need to turn that off for your home network.

There are more 0 days for ios than android right now and even for the last two years.

Not to mention some of the worst ios hacks don't even require user interaction or software installation.

That's a fanboy response. I work in security too. It doesn't matter what security you have on your device. Everything can be easily hacked and the more popular it is the bigger the target they are.

You don't even need a Zero Day attack to steal from Android users:

Researchers from IBM Trusteer say they’ve uncovered a massive fraud operation that used a network of mobile device emulators to drain millions of dollars from online bank accounts in a matter of days.

The scale of the operation was unlike anything the researchers have seen before. In one case, crooks used about 20 emulators to mimic more than 16,000 phones belonging to customers whose mobile bank accounts had been compromised. In a separate case, a single emulator was able to spoof more than 8,100 devices, as shown in the following image:

That is just using an sms exploit of an already compromised account. And was already done to apple users also. Similar attack was used to compromise icloud also.

As a side note, our SmartThings arrival sensors have been working great.

Let’s stay on topic, gentlemen.

Yes, please. This driver is useful to a lot of people. They likely don't want to wade through a platform war.

Just wanted to say that I am pretty happy with the Alexa presence sensors I have created. It is not 100% I would say 99.95%. It missed me one time when I got to my office and once when my wife left home. But between the combination of this, HE and Wifi presence, I don't think I have missed a presence event sine I added the Alexa app in.

Do you have Alexa presence working for more than a single person and if so how did you go about doing that?

Yes I use custom actions for my wife's phone. Her phone can't access the devices directly but she can speak phases when on her account and activate devices without having to switch accounts. Turn on a light etc. That was something they fixed a while back.

You type in a phase "Alexa turn on switch" and tell it which echo device it is speaking to.

So I have two routines setup on my wife's phone one says turn on the virtual switch when she arrives home and another that says turn it off when she leaves.

Ahh that makes sense. Everyone in my family shares the same "House" amazon account since the account sharing for Alexa is abysmal imo, especially compared to GH. I really wish you could just invite people to join your alexa household without needing to create a family structure with a variety of permissions that you cannot adjust.

Then you could just select a household you want to interface with and do as you please so you don't need to login and logout of an account. With their current system I feel like having multiple alexa enabled houses is basically impossible.

Hope you don't mind, I forked a copy for my own use. I wanted to expose the tries per minute for sub-minute checking. It's capped at 4 tries per minute.

Any issues when checking that often?

Using it on 3 phones at 4 times a minute I had no issues. I dialed it back to 2 times per minute for them though. Over 20 times a minute on three phones it started to bog down.

Ha, I will if you then tell mine.

Anyway to adjust how often it looks for devices? the frequent attempts seem to be slowing down my other wifi devices.
