My camera got here a day early. Initial impression: WOW!
The jump from the G5 to the G6 is well worth the additional $100. The two biggest features for me are the 10x zoom and the motion tracking.
Ubiquity calls it a hybrid zoom. From what I had seen I thought it was 1-5x optical and 6-10x digital. It turns out that with the two cameras it is the wide angle lens that does the digital zoom. As you continue to zoom in the telephoto lens takes over and does an optical zoom out to 10x. So 4K resolution with 10x zoom is nuts at this price point.
The tracking on the G5 left a lot to be desired. It would often wait until the subject walked out of frame and then jerk to a new position, focus, and continue tracking. Often the camera would lose the subject as it was refocusing. The G6 has a nice, smooth pan while tracking. It looks more like the more expensive ($1000+) cameras in Unbiquiti's lineup.
This is my first impression after about an hour playing with the camera. Are you on the fence? Jump of and get the camera.
The only issue I have is that now I have to replace the G5 on the other side of my house. This isn't so bad, I'll use the G5 at the back of the house. I'll probably upgrade in a few months since it isn't a priority.
