Understanding Hue bulbs

I know that there is a Hue Bridge Integration in Hubitat, and in fact used it with 100% reliability with the Hue Multisensor. So, yes, it works.

The situation: I am a novice experimenter with home automation and had heard such great things about Hue bulbs. I bought a Starter Kit that included the physical hub and bulbs. I set this all up and they work like a charm.

What I want to do: I am moving house and want the new place to be free of hang-ons. No accessory bridges. If a device will not run natively off of my C-8pro I am not interested in it unless it REALLY offers some whiz-bang thing I can't live without. For this reason I want to move the Hue bulbs from the Hue (physical) Bridge over to the Hue Bridge app in my C-8pro.

The Fly in the Ointment: I have looked at Philips' own instructions, and several YouTube videos. I am trying to do this via the Android phone app. What is shown in the videos does not match up with what I see. I have also tried the 8 seconds off 5 seconds on, twirl-your-partner-do-si-do and STILL can't get them to go to their flashing "I'm ready" state. I do not own a Hue remote, don't want to buy one, and have no use for one.

Were these lamps not so a) new, and b) expensive, I'd just retire them. But given those two things I really want to keep using them but pull them into my C-8pro.

Suggestions? Thanks in advance, folks!

Like any zigbee device, you'd just pair each bulb to your HE as a zigbee device -- there is no "Hue bridge app in the C-8Pro" if you're not using a Hue bridge.

A Hue (dimmer) remote is an easy way to factory reset Hue bulbs (factory resetting is required to pair to a new controller) -- it's a handy accessory to have just for that singular purpose.

I was using Hue Bridge Integration (see center line in attached photo) to run the multisensor, and did not have a physical Hue Bridge device before I bought the Starter Kit.

This is not possible if you did not add the device via a Hue Bridge, as @hydro311 is correct that this integration app is only for adding Hue devices to Hubitat via the Hue Bridge over your LAN. It is possible you used direct Zigbee pairing to add this device to your hub (in which case the presence or absence of this app is not relevant), or perhaps you configured your Hue Bridge after this fact and set it up that way now.

As for which way to do things, I strongly prefer the Hue bridge. For one, it's really good at managing lights, groups (rooms/zones), scenes, and other lighting-centric devices and features. It also offers direct integration with Alexa, Google Home, Siri, and similar services. It also stays up almost all the time but particularly when my Hubitat hub is rebooting for updates or testing (which I probably do more frequently than the average person, but it's still nice to have more control when that is happening...). At least with older Hue bulbs, some people have found them to cause problems routing for other devices (see: How to Build a Solid Zigbee Mesh | Hubitat Documentation), though at least anecdotally, that seems better with newer ones.

But some of that is just a matter of preference -- and that's just mine.

I use Sengled 5000K bulbs (white), Innr 2500~ 5000K CT bulbs, and Third Reality RGBW bulbs that all connect directly to the HE C-8 Pro that I have. I have had ZERO issues with any of these bulbs and are more cost effective than Hue. If you decide to go the route of no added on hubs you may want to consider these.

That's what I am thinking of doing. I may just take the loss and call it a day. I had reasonably good results with Sengled in the past and find my Innr plugs to be solid as a rock. I think I will mark this thread as solved and move on. Thanks, everyone!

It sounds like this is the step where the OP got stuck.

The Hue remote seems like a cheaper option to continue using the Hue bulbs directly paired to Hubitat than scrapping them entirely and replacing with other bulbs.

The Sengled bulbs are non-repeaters, the Innr and Third Reality are repeaters. A lot of people says not to use bulbs that are repeaters but I honestly have had no issues with it. It you have other repeaters such as plugs and presence sensors most devices will migrate to them instead of the bulbs but the few devices that went to the bulbs have had zero issues.

I have enough oddball Zigbee plugs scattered about that I can press them into use as repeaters.

If you delete the bulbs from the Hue bridge (assuming they are connected and powered), that will reset the bulbs, at which point you can immediately add them to HE.
