I'm able to turn the lights on and off using Alexa (connected via Hubitat). If I open the Alexa app, I can toggle the slider and the lights will dim appropriately. However, if I ask Alexa to set the lights to 5%, then the response is "not supported". Same thing with saying "lights brighter" or "dim the lights", I get the response "not supported".
What gives? I have some wifi TP-link bulbs (not associated with Hubitat) and that voice command works just fine for those.
It sounds like Alexa has somehow misidentified your Lutron devices as being switches and not dimmer-capable. If you look at the device on the Alexa app does it have a power level?
It's been a long time since I set up my Lutron switches in Alexa but I don't recall having to do that... but give it a shot and maybe at least it will point you in the right direction.
I have a power slider just like you do in the Alexa app and the switch is identified as a light device. As mentioned above I can toggle the dimming percentage in the Alexa app, I just canβt control it by voice with Alexa which is baffling.
Ah yes so you did. I didn't quite pick up on that - only one cup of coffee.
Are you calling out the lights by name? Or are you just saying "dim the lights"? Both should work as long as the Alexa app is configured such that the light is in the same Alexa group as the echo device you are using. Though if it works with "turn on the lights" it should work just as well with "dim the lights."
Tried calling lights out directly by name and also as "dim the lights", as they're part of a room group. I double checked that I'm not crazy by adding a TP-link wifi bulb to the room group and it dims just fine by voice.
If I control the dimmer physically or with the Lutron app, I get this type of log: 2023-04-03 07:19:41.104 AMinfoMaster Bedroom Main Lights was set to 6% [physical]
If I dim the lights via the Alexa app (emphasis on app, not by voice), then I get this type of log: 2023-04-03 07:22:13.858 AMinfoMaster Bedroom Main Lights was set to 30% [digital]
When I ask Alexa to dim the lights and get the "not supported" response, I don't see any log event in Hubitat. Just beyond strange...
Ok quick update, I screwed up a little and you were correct. I was calling out the direct wrong name incorrectly. I am able to now dim the lights by directly calling out the lights name. Something is wrong with the group association with the bedroom, even though I've added that Lutron dimmer to the bedroom just like the wifi TP-link bulb which dims correctly when I simply say "dim the lights"
I guess this is mainly an Alexa issue now? I'm not sure why the grouping isn't working. Never had this problem before with wifi devices.
That is odd. I use that feature and it works fine with me so it isn't something unique to Lutron or HE... what if you delete and recreate a room fresh?
Wanted to follow up on this issue. It turns out that adding a TP-link bulb to any Alexa Group with Lutron switches controlled by HE will break the voice dimming functionality of the Lutron dimmers in that group. Example, I tried adding the TP-link bulb to my bedroom, living room, and kitchen and as I added the bulb to each group, the only light that would dim by voice is the TP-link bulb. As soon as I remove the TP-link bulb from the group then the Lutron dimmers can be controlled by voice again. How incredibly goofy is this??
Are these tp-link bulbs directly integrated with Alexa, or via Hubitat? I would be perplexed only if these bulbs were integrated with Alexa via Hubitat.
