I bought a home a couple of years ago and it came with 3 years of free home automation provided for free. So I bought a Hubitat C-8 to handle the Z-Wave devices in the house. The Hubitat is connected to my router via ethernet. I'm trying and failing to detect a Honeywell T6 Pro Z-Wave thermostat that is already on the existing network. There is a tablet in the house on the wall I believe setup as the controller. So, I tried excluding the thermostat but it gives an error on the thermostat Failed to Exclude.
Try to exclude the t-stats using the Hubitat hub. Put the hub into z-wave exclusion and go through the steps on each t-stat to exclude. Then try again to include them.
If that doesn’t work you may need to factory reset each t-stat.
Oh! Yes, I indicated above when I tried to exclude the thermostat it just produced an error "Failed to Exclude". I was going to try a factory reset but it's not in the PDF manual I have! For future reference here is what AI said:
To reset your Honeywell T6 Pro Z-Wave thermostat to factory defaults, follow these steps:
Press and hold the Menu button for about 5 seconds.
Scroll left until you see the Reset option.
Select Reset, then choose Factory Reset.
Confirm by selecting Yes.
Thanks for your help, I'll try the reset tomorrow...
I bought three of those used on Ebay, when they came they were not excluded. I just did the factory reset on each of them and they paired fine without issue. There is no need to try and exclude them, factory reset does the same thing.
Resetting did the trick. Now I'm trying to figure out how to configure a schedule. I configured a schedule on the thermostat, but I don't see anything under the "Scheduled Jobs" tab.
I really don't do schedules. I simply have a rule that when the house shuts down it drops to a certain setpoint then at 5am it goes to a set point. I maintain a steady temp summer through winter of 72 degrees
As I recall, you need to use Thermostat Scheduler on the Hubitat hub, The T6 Z-Wave thermostats work best with a schedule set/pushed by the hub device they are connected to.
In addition to the Thermostat Schedulers app mentioned, you can just make your own rules in Rule Machine or Webcore to change mode and setpoints. That would be if you want to trigger a change based on something Thermostat Schedulers doesn't offer, like motion detection in a zone, or outside temperature.
You don’t need Thermostat Controller to setup schedules for thermostats.
From the documentation:
In most circumstances, a properly located thermostat will work well to maintain comfortable temperatures. However, the performance of a heating and cooling system may suffer when the thermostat is not in the right location or there is significant heat gain or loss in parts of the your home. Some thermostats also lack an Auto mode, which may result in difficulties during conditions that require both heating and cooling. The Thermostat Controller app allows more control of your connected thermostat by creating a virtual thermostat device to manipulate the setpoints of the controlled thermostat, thus taking over most of its functionality and becoming the controller thermostat for establishing setpoints of your heating and cooling system.
NOTE: Do not confuse Thermostat Controller, which addresses the unique case mentioned above, with Thermostat Scheduler, which allows automating a thermostat setpoint based on time or mode.
I tried Thermostat Controller with the T6s, and it literally took over the thermostats so I could no longer use the physical thermostat controls on the thermostat itself to change setpoints or anything else, as it locked the screen controls. Not what I was looking for.
