Unable to commission a Matter bulb using Google Home

Hi All,

Anybody know what's going on? I use a Pixel 8 Pro SmartPhone so I decided to stay with Google and use Google Home to commission my new Linkind Matter SmartBulbs. As I drilled through the procedure a message popped up telling me I needed a Matter enabled hub. Say what? I already have a hub; a very good one. Why do I need another? Is it because during setup I selected to install a Matter device? So how do I commission the SmartBulbs?

There was no way to dismiss the message or work around it so I tried AiDot, the native Linkind app. Same dead end!

Are you trying to connect the Matter bulbs directly to Hubitat or into Google Home first? If you are using Hubitat, make sure both the app and the hub are updated to its most recent firmware and you should be able to make them work.

If you are trying to connect the Matter bulbs to Google Home, you must have a Google Home Matter controller on the network. Per Prepare your smart home for Matter - Google Nest Help, you must have one of the following:

  • Speakers: Google Home, Google Home Mini, Nest Mini, Nest Audio
  • Displays: Nest Hub (1st gen), Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max
  • Wi-Fi routers: Nest Wifi Pro (Wi-Fi 6E)
  • Streamers: Google TV Streamer (4K)
