Matter works sorta different compared to protocols like Zigbee and Z-wave, where you are pairing directly from device to a radio within the hub.
With Matter, and specifically Hubitat Matter (at least as of Jan 2025) you have to join "commission" the device to your Wifi network via a commissioning device. There are a few ways to do so, but Alexa and Google Home are popular ways to commission a device.
Once the device has been commissioned, you can share that device to Hubitat.
