Did you have any luck? I came upon this thread trying to update firmware on 2 of these that I just bought. Very frustrating as I'm getting the same error you got!
Sethbartel. No. No joy. I had hi hopes too when I bought 2 myself. I won't be buying anymore.
So I was able to get it to update by pressing the side button BEFORE clicking on the update firmware app button. Everything worked flawlessly for me, but I should note I moved the device very close to my hub, and I did not try doing it at a distance. Hope that helps!
