Took a sledgehammer to my old 2k DoorBell Cam and never looked back

I've thought about doing similar. I have a bunch of 4K Foscams and use xeoma for my nvr

It works great and with the IP cameras can be setup standalone where there's no NVR just using an SD card. On my own system I connected a wired push to the alarm input on the cam and the alarm output on the cam back to the wireless push (I just whipped the pcb out and soldered to the connections). The output was then set to follow the input in the alarm input actions. I did it that way to keep it isolated. I've also done another where I just connected the wired push to both the wireless push and alarm input in parallel and that also worked. While setting up I did find that in some circumstances the wireless push would 'lock up' when the dumb button was pressed, but found that inverting the supposedly volt free connection would resolve it, the issue being caused by the negative ground common connection on the input.

I like hikvision cams a lot. Right now I have three that are 4K capable, only one has audio but I had to connect a separate mic.

I might have to upgrade the camera by the front door to take advantage of one with built in mic though .

If one has a home automation system as capable as Hubitat, a doorbell with video built in is a bit redundant IMO. Let the camera do what it’s best at, and use the automation system to manage button pushes, chimes, mobile notifications etc.

Right but it would be nice if when notification is pushed to the phone that it automatically opened up the video. (I'm sure there is a way to do it)

True, that would probably take quite a bit of kludging together to work smoothly if not using a doorbell cam and its built-in app.

I believe it’s possible to set something like that up with a Hubitat dashboard on a tablet running fully kiosk browser though.

You could always open the front door and look at the person... in person...

Shut your mouth. We don't cotton to talk like that around this here parts!

If I wanted to get up to check who’s at the door, I could just use the peephole, but what’s the fun in that?

And just in case that term doesn’t translate down under (I could see it potentially being applied to a range of other uses…), I’m talking this kind of peep hole .

Lol.... Don't worry, peep-holes don't invoke some sinister or unknown reference down here.... More likely to rental living or hotel accommodation, which may trigger very different memories for some nowadays...

Looks like I got the reaction I was expecting...

That is cause the iphone does it in 4k :joy:

My new doorbell Cam (~ 2K+40% or ~ < 4k-60% or just plain 5 MP) just passed one
of my very stringent, reliabilty hurdles - ZERO false alarms from cats, skunks, large insects, blowing branches, ice/snow/rain, floating leaves to name a few. Further testing on-going.

You just can't have the quality and very reliable Hubitat HE C7 hub along with my previous 2K "pixel reading" junk DoorBell Cam. Any home automation equipment that fails will meet up with the sledgehammer! :grinning:

Skunks, blowing leaves, rain, snow, cats, ice, and large insects, eh?

How long have you been testing this thing?

It's really great it's not affected by skunks, blowing leaves...........or burglars or car thieves....

Small animals - "on my porch" were the main culprit in many of my false alerts from my "pixel reading" 2K junk doorbell cam.

As for burglars or car thieves - I have a special treat for them. Hi res (4k DVR cameras) everywhere and PIR sensors will do the trick.

No false alarms on my property and I know, in the middle of the night, that I will get the 410 and "THE DOG"

5 days - only for reliability - no false alarms whatsoever.

So you've encountered skunks, rain, snow, ice AND large insects all in the last 5 days?

You must live in a very interesting location...

That's Ohio for you.
BTW .... For those asking what is a 410? It is a device that causes painful, large holes in objects. :grinning:
For quality control and reliability sake, I keep a log of every alert.

I like to also add, that my new doorbell cam allows for "forming a detection window" which will eliminate small animals unless they are four feet tall. :grinning:

Some animals (and people) can rise to the occasion.

Caught a four foot one from Amazon
I have two signs posted saying "ring the doorbell on all deliveries"
Guess what? They don't know how to read OR they are on the clock and refuse to ring the doorbell.
BTW ... This 5 MP picture is very sharp and clear.
