Thread?

In another conversation I thought about this. Maybe in the next version of HE (C7+?) if thread could be added. Honestly I don't know the hardware feasibility or licensing involved but it could be interesting. A direct integration into other thread products and maybe homekit directly? It could be a game changer in bringing more people to hubitat that otherwise are looking for strictly apple products. It would also tie in with the HE philosophy of keeping things local. Just a thought.

It could be, but really early still. If you consider Eve being among the first, this totally makes sense for them because they are WiFi only. Far too early to jump on that (especially for a startup to jump on that. The early members have very deep pockets and would barely feel it not work for them. Smaller companies are have to really calculate the risk of investing in something so new that could disappear tomorrow because the big guys decided it wasn't going to make them as much money as they thought.

I dunno, I still think it's a good way to snag homekit people. It's a good protocol for what it is, but as I said I don't know what would have to be done to do it. My other thought process is to possibly have better access to some of the fun wifi stuff I see without needing the cloud (obviously it would have to be home kit compliant for that aspect to work). I don't necessarily disagree with you, just fanciful wondering on my part...

Well HomeKit compatibility would be where you need to start! :joy:
Bit of cart before the horse right?

There's always a risk in investing too early if you don't have massive funds to burn. Imagine being a small startup that bought into the idea that AllJoyn was going to solve all the compatibility issues.

Hmmm... Looking at it, Thread is open source and free to license, so you wouldn't necessarily need homekit compatibility to be thread compatible. If you could use thread compatible products like Nanoleaf and Eve, it might be a good start. As more gear towards the apple platform, it may be self sustaining. (Again, I don't disagree with any of your points, but I don't see apple going away from home automation, especially with the way they've been swapping around the homepod stuff) And once again, I'm just pondering is all.
