Sounds cool item

Will Thread mesh devices be something Hubitat will be able to bridge with in the future?

I am doing more reading on Thread mesh and it seems to be open source?

@techbill Thread is cool and I like the idea. Thread will be integral to Matter. I think at this point Hubitat is biding it's time to see if Matter itself comes to fruition.

Before many (not just Hubitat) manufacturers will move forward:

  1. Need final/published standard
  2. Need devices commercially available to test with

#2 is coming around (sort of), but #1 is a problem.

Many manufacturers are willing to implement a non-final standard of Matter, but many with less resources/more cost focused will wait until it is final.

Thread has been open source for many years, and is used in some Nest devices... Yet you see how well Nest devices integrate into other ecosystems?

Time will tell if Matter helps with this or not - and to what extent. It is all theoretical at this point.

Matter is the new buzz word. I feel like if the makers don't mention it they won't be taken seriously.

From my understanding all we want is for HE to be an edge router I believe. And then we can include the matter devices and use them with the hub we all love.

It all sounds nice, but who knows how it will react once you get it into the real world and start throwing a crap load of devices on it. I'm sure we will find out its limitations quickly.
