So, maybe showing my ignorance, but aren't the push notifications going through the cellular (LTE) network? (Hence the question about whether a cell connection is required on the Android tablet).

I have lots of "always on" rpis in the house already. If tasker does the job on my phone, maybe I'll try running Android on another RPI with tasker running on that--or get an Android tablet as you suggested.

That picture implies that the Reolink (at least the battery version) is triggered when the low voltage AC signal is applied to those terminals. But, I don't understand how the resistor+diode comes into play.

Need a drawing/schematic or pointer to documentation.

I've never put on Android OS on a Raspberry Pi and only have spare Pi Zeros so probably can't test if Tasker would run.

Someone HAS hacked a Reolink chime to get a relay output that way:

If I can't figure out the details from what rlithgow1 I'll do that to the one that's on the way to me to close a relay (or use logic signal instead) to generate a zwave event.

The diode keeps the chime going until the tone is done. Without it the moment the button is released it turns off

The diagram I posted is for powering an existing chime from the Reolink. That's not what I'm trying to do but it's the only thing I've found online.

Wires connect to the terminals. I have a 7 ohm diode laid across them.

All I can find about using the screw terminals on the back of the Reolink are for powering it if not using POE. I can find nothing about using them to trigger something like the pushbutton.

I'm curious about the diode thing as well. Once upon a time, someone told me to run a certain sized resistor across those leads and the thing just got hot an popped within 5 seconds, then I never tried again. This is the first time I am hearing of a diode. I'd absolutely love if you could share a link to the diode you used on ebay or amazon, and possibly a picture of how you installed it?

The diode goes across the terminals like so... Then a doorbell wire to each terminal. I did this as a matter of course during installation. Didn't even think about it. Works fine. (direction of the diode doesn't matter) (Edited, thought I had posted it)

Sorry it's taking me so long to figure out what you're doing. It's kinda hard with nuggets of info spread across many posts.

So, your goal was to have the Reolink activate your existing doorbell chime, right? I was thinking you were somehow using an existing doorbell BUTTON to trigger the Reolink and I didn't see anywhere else that was being done.

I was hoping that closing a switch across the Reolink terminals or providing a digital signal to that terminal would activate Reolink just like pushing its button. I totally misunderstood what you were doing.

Regardless, my chime is not digital, so based on the Ring video, the diode should not be used for the Reolink. Reolink instructions to use an existing doorbell CHIME don't even mention the diode.

Right now, my original doorbell button + chime is still wired up, but totally separate from the Reolink. It works, but visitors can push either button, so I'd like to get an event from either into HE.

The old chime and button still works and I have access to both the chime wires and button wires in my equipment closet.

I think I can easily get the doorbell button press to create a zwave event using a Zen17. I was thinking about using that same switch closure (pushing the button) to also activate the Reolink, just like pushing the Reolink button. That's what got me looking at your posts.

steven_nutt's suggestion to use Tasker would allow me to get an event from the Reolink into the HE environment so that either the original doorbell button or the Reolink could be used to do the same thing--Alexa speaks, flash some lights, do something where I know someone pushed the button regardless what floor of the house I'm on or even if I'm down a the workshop.

Hacking a second Reolink chime should provide the same capability (get a Reolink button push event into HE). I'm waiting for that to arrive and try hacking it. If that doesn't work, then I'll go with tasker running on Android.

I originally bounced my reolink presses through Blue Iris, but have since switched to Home Assistant running on a PI, using the reolink integration
