Thermostat Dilemma and Venstar Thermostats

I have a Water Furnace heat pump with four zones currently using 3 Water Furnace thermostats and one Honeywell that also controls an inline humidifier. The heat pump is two stage w/ electric backup so dual stage cooling and heating and emergency heat. The water furnace stats use 7 wires including one diagnostic wire for Water Furnace faults. I am unclear if that diagnostic wire is proprietary or an optional HVAC standard. I have a photo of the WF stat base plate wiring if anyone is interested in that.

I would like to get 4 thermostats total that are well thought of, readily available, and supported well by the vendor for homeowners. One of them must offer humidification control. Would be nice if they had remote calibration, and supplied status, temperature, and humidity to Hubitat even when not in heat or cool mode.

Problem is most of the supported thermostats do not support humidity and/or are not rated very well in reliability, or are no longer available, or are not supported very well by the vendor. Sold by Amazon is a plus though I will certainly buy elsewhere.

I like the idea of local Z-Wave or ZigBee control for sure but am willing to have cloud-based WIFI thermostats if that is the best option to meet feature, support, availability, and reliability requirements, as long as they can still function on their own w/o the cloud connection. Our internet is fortunately fiber even though living in the boonies of NC, so has been exceptionally reliable and well supported.

It is too bad that Emerson restricts their API as they get rated well. And too bad the Honeywell TH6320ZW model is the only Honeywell stat supported by Hubitat as it does not control humidity.

I am glad for any suggestions meeting my requirements and also want to ask more about the possibility of the Venstar thermostat as the specs sound very interesting, they have a well-designed and functional website supporting development, and there is at least one developer written driver (dtarin,PPZ,cybrmage) for the Venstar stats but I’m unclear on its status and location since it seems dtarin no longer works on it.

Will Hubitat consider official support of the Venstar stats, and the mainstream Honeywell WIFI stats, or even Emerson if they by chance have opened their API properly by now as they are rated well and have humidistat control.

I would consider buying a Venstar and helping with driver development if any help was wanted (Hubitat newbie here), and if the Venstar stats are reliable and no one has already run into insurmountable issues with them working with Hubitat.

The Venstar thermostats have a wide range of models including residential and commercial and several with humidity control and sound great on paper. They are WIFI and cloud based with remote features but make a point to highlight that they have Alexa support, local API support via REST calls and they have a developer program.

Here are the Venstar sites –

Stat Products Venstar - Thermostats select any stat and go to the bottom to see its many features and sub models

Developer https://developer.venstar.com/ includes the API and examples

Support Venstar - Support includes documentation, FAQ and lots of support videos

Thanks, Dave

P.S. I am not affiliated with Venstar or any other HVAC type entity…just retired
