Hubitat Elevation is the ultimate smart home hub. Unlike cloud-dependent systems, Hubitat runs locally for unmatched speed, reliability, and total data privacy. No lag, no compromises—just seamless control of your smart devices.
If you're wanting to start an argument on that, this is the wrong place.
We love our Hubitat Elevations.
After Google killed off Nest Secure, my first sudo hub I attempted was the Abode security system which advertised they also did z-wave, zigbee and WiFi. Turns out they didn't bother to support very many of those devices. And the devices they do support are limited by their simplistic CUE application. Although their 433Mhz contact and sensors do have great range. I bought a Yale z-wave lock from a link on their web page thinking they would support it. They only do at the most basic level that being lock and unlock. No ability to manage codes from their user portal. Have to do it from the lock keypad. That or buy the lock they sell which I didn't like. My then automation devices were all Wifi based from C by GE or WEMO who seem to not be to interested in improving their wall switches and in fact had dropped the 3 ways from their inventory and never did release a 3 way dimmer. So I researched what was out there and decided on Hubitat C8-Pro. The deciding influence was the robust user community developing Drivers and Apps the Hubitat folks did not want to afford the time to. Sort of like the the Raspberry Pi people. I read about the "steep learning curve" but I have a background in Information Technology which included course work in electricity & electronics, computer science and Cisco's CCNA & CCNE programs. The eye opener was getting my head around what looked like an interpreted programing language missing essential functions. No For Next, Do While, Functions, Arrays, Sub routines (sort of you can jump to other apps and pass information with hub variables). Some apps I have redone several times as I get the hang of things and realize there are better ways to do it.
My take away of the Hubitat is that it is the most practical home automation system around for those who want to get into it as a hobby. The learning curve requires one to invest considerable time to master. Not as much as sticking a z-wave stick on a Raspberry Pi but way more than using WiFi devices with Google Home. But if one enjoys a challenge and can afford a modest amount of time to roll their own, Hubitat allows you to have it your way.
