I say new because I am still using the old app. I have a C5 and a C7. I'm moving and decided to get a C8-Pro and upgrade and consolidate to a single hub. When I open the app and select "switch to another hub" I do not see the C8 on the list. There is a "search this hub on LAN" option... but it seems to be searching my new network for the C7, which isn't there.
That's not the only reason I think the new app is stupid. The back button just closes the app half the time. I mean the Android back button, not the one in the app. Go to the account settings, see registered hubs (which lists the C8), oh that's not where you need to add a device if using SmartStart, hit back... app disappears completely. This happens constantly because I use gesture navigation, so when I want to go back I just swipe from the side. I have to restart the app constantly because it just does not work with the OS's built in back feature.
The back button on android doesn't close the app. It just leaves it open in the background. If you go to recent apps, you will see it there. You would have to close it from recent apps in order to actually stop the app.
If you are on a samsung, you can actually pin it so that it never closes. However, you should not be using the back button in android PARTICULARLY if you are editing rules or similar in the app. This can lead to broken rules or changes that do not get saved.
What do you mean by "isn't there"? I see you have 3 hubs registered, including the C-8 Pro that is online and should have shown up.
Based on the picture you shared, you may be running an older version of the app. Please be sure to update.
Unfortunately, this is a larger problem with modern code in Android. Hubitat is not the only app that does this. Most newer apps suffer from this inconvenience.
I have one that bugs me ..
On the HOME page .. you can not click the Notifications ?
I think you used to be able to, and they would expand or a pop-up, like in the actual notifications tab doesn't seem to be that way anymore.
Is the network that your phone is reporting to be connected to, the same as your local network that your hub is connected to? That could explain why you cannot see the new hub and also why you don't see the "find hubs"
It does.... when this happens and I reopen the app I get the Hubitat logo splash screen and it takes me back to the main page, even when reopened from the recent apps list. I don't edit rules in the app, I just wanted to try adding a device using SmartStart. I'm on a Pixel 7.
I am at my new house now and the only hub on the network is my C8. I can connect to it and it's working fine, but the app doesn't seem to know it exists.
I never removed the old app when the new one came out quite a while back. I am running version 2.1.3.72 which seems to be the newest version. The old app that hasn't been updated in forever is version 1.7.4 and it can scan my network and find the hub no problem.
My C8 is connected to the router via Ethernet and my phone is on NASA Deep Space Network. It's the same network. It is not the network my C7 is on. It's still connected at my old house and online.
So, when you hit the recents button or open recent apps using the gesture, it isn't there?
It is not actually closed until it is removed from the "recent apps". The refresh thing happens everytime the app comes back into focus on the screen. It is not just when the app is closed. The back button basically does the same thing as minimizing on a computer.
Again, if you are using Samsung, you can actually pin it to the recent apps so that it stays open in the background all the time (helps to prevent it from being closed by battery and memory clearing)
If it is in your recents, tap the hubitat logo in the top center of the tile in the recents view. Then, select "keep open" in the menu that pops up (Samsung only - as far as I can tell)
I thought in previous versions it actually did that, but I could be wrong.
You're absolutely correct. That would be awesome. Thanks for putting it on the list.
I'd tried that a few times. At one point I somehow (seemingly random) got it to show my C8 hub instead of the C7 but the app broke and kept displaying what looked like some kind of JSON on the Home tab and the devices tab wasn't working at all. I cleared the app's cache and it went back to showing the C7... lol.
But I kept messing with it and trying different combinations of what order I do things and eventually (again, seemingly random) got the app to see the C8 and switch to it even after multiple closings of the app. I tried adding a device through SmartStart, which I couldn't get it to add as a mesh device instead of LR... but that's a separate issue, which ironically was the only thing I wanted to use the app for. I decided as I move and reinstall my devices, I am going to factory reset them and start all my automations over instead of trying to import anything.
@bobbyD can support transfer my current Hub Protect from my C7 to the C8?
Short answer, no. Longer answer, unfortunately, not. But you can do it from my.hubitat.com. After you log in, go to Registered hubs then click transfer on the C-7 hub. Select C-8 as destination.
Oh awesome; I didn't realize I could do it. I'm pretty sure when I moved from my C5 to the C7 quite a while back that support had to manually do it. I just transferred it without any issues.
Next question... I am trying to add this plug in mesh mode using SmartStart. I went to add device, scanned the QR code, and have not plugged it in yet.
What boot mode can I select to make it so that when I plug it in, it will not pair in LR mode? I've tried all 3 and when looking in zwave details it shows that it included in LR mode...
Also, should I uncheck S2 Unauthenticated? It had both checked by default, which seems a little contradictory.
