Thanks and Goodbye (for now?)

Hi all. I've been a Hubitat user since December 2019, but that may be over soon. I'm moving next week, and smart house systems aren't very transferrable at this point. I had over 75 Lutron devices, and another 50+ other devices with multiple automations and apps running (and Alexa voice control of everything).

It was less work to remove it all than to document it and try to teach a potential buyer (especially when I'll be in a different State), and I recovered $4-5K worth of equipment that will be useful in my new house. Unfortunately, the new place is a 1918 farm house that we're gutting and completely remodeling (while living there) so it will be a while before I'm going to be installing smart house stuff again, and at that point I'm going to be setting up a home server for a local AI and probably switching to Home Assistant since it will run on that.

But... I have really liked Hubitat and will miss it, and it's hard to imagine HA having such a friendly and helpful community, so I'll miss you guys too.

P.S. The whole time I was removing the Caseta dimmers and switches and wall-mounted Picos (putting their old 3-way switches back), I kept hearing in the back of my mind, the scene from "2001: A Space Odyssey" where Dave is pulling HAL's holographic storage modules, and HAL is saying "My mind is going... I can feel it". My house seems very dead now.

Best of luck!

Wishing you good luck - living in a construction zone is taxing at best.

Best of luck on the house remodel (I am doing the same) and on your future smart home endeavors.

I run both HA and Hubitat and I will forewarn you. The community there is nowhere near the community here. There are some really good people there (honestly, most of those are people from here, but there are some others) but expect to get little to no help from the community other than those I mentioned. I can’t even get a reply to most things. Just be prepared to troubleshoot most things yourself or rely on members of this forum that will help you with Ha. They are here and I personally owe them dearly.

I'd say you have bigger fish to fy than a few light swithes! Bon voyage/remodel. I'm sure we'll see you back here at some point, just make sure to update the wiring along the way.

Best wishes for an easy move and remodel. FWIW, I use Home Assistant with Lutron Caseta (two different Pro hubs on a decent-sized property) and really like it. But I still have two Hubitat C7 hubs running and speaking to HA. One of them handles limited zwave to control a buffer tank heater in a distant building (otherwise I do zwave with HA), and the other I keep to run the excellent Ecowitt and Weather Underground interfaces maintained by @sburke781 and @dJOS respectively. HA has integrations or apps for those but I don't find they are as good as those two Hubitat drivers. So keeping that hub active is a good way to have the best of both worlds. You might find yourself in a similar situation.
