Texas Instruments to acquire Silicon Labs

I wonder what this will mean for zwave.
I think it’s a good thing.

I don't think it will change much.

On the Zigbee/Thread side, TI and Silicon Labs make competing chips. Wonder what will happen to those competing lines.

An interesting turn of events for sure.

Silab's whole DNA is one of an acquisition based ethos.. just look at all the companies they acquired and picked up along the way.

TI has always been a local, build your own, home-grown entity; not an acquisition based entity.

So this is a fascinating 'merger'. I can only assume current TI ELT felt they were at a disadvantage in the embedded radio/IOT game and felt like they needed to hedge.

It will be interesting to se how this all plays out.

In 2011 TI aquired national semiconductor for $6.5B. That was worth more in today’s dollars than the $7.5B for SiLabs.
