Hi! I bought a couple of these switches to install in my system, they are matter but they are wifi... should I add them directly in hubitat app (and how, because adding the matter 11 digit code is not working) or I should add it first to the tapo app and later to hubitat? Zwave and Zigbee was much easier!
You need to commission them with apple, google, or echo. Once commissioned you can generate a code to add to hubitat. That said, because bluetooth is needed to commission, once the hubitat app is given the ability to use the bluetooth radio in your phone, you will be able to commission directly to hubitat.
Hubitat's mobile apps don't (currently) take advantage of the Bluetooth in your mobile devices, so to pair a Matter device, you'd need to start with an Apple, Google, Amazon device that can use the Bluetooth in your device, then you can generate a pairing code from those controllers to allow the Hubitat hub to add the device without using Bluetooth. For more details, please check out this video:
I did this also but now I am at a loss on how to share these Matter devices back to Google and Alexa. Obviously I could use the built integrations these platforms but I'd rather the devices be integrated using matter to cut down on latency and dependence on Hubitat.
Tapo will directly onboard to a matter controller then attach to hubitat. In my case I onboarded to homekit then generated a matter code and attached to Hubitat. (Tapo's are matter over wifi). When Hubitat's app eventually gets access to bluetooth you will be able to onboard matter directly to hubitat. Meross on the otherhand sucks.
My problem is not pairing the device with Hubitat as a Matter device; as stated this can be done via the Matter code printed on the device after having been added to the Wi-Fi using the Tapo app. My problem is getting the device into another controller since the original Matter pairing code only works for the first paired device. Other controllers must obtain a pairing code from the first paired controller and Hubitat seems like it does not support that.
