I have two switches in one room (one is a dimmer the other an on/off.) I’ve tried several different motion detectors and they don’t make any difference to my rules/actions. I’ve also set the polling of both of these switches down to 5 and the rules still work intermittently and often not at all.
What I have is a rule (tried Basic Rules, Rule Machine, Etc.) that says if there is no detection after X minutes, simply turn off these switches so that energy isn’t being wasted (one is actually an exhaust fan/light so it sucks out heated or cooled air—family is constantly leaving these switches on.)
I’ve read that these switches aren’t the most reliable when it comes to polling, and hence dropping them down to 5 seconds.
HOWEVER, I’ve set up the same motion detection to turn the lights/switches on immediately when motion is detected and this works flawlessly.
So, I simply don’t understand how it works great for one set of rules and not the other, and if there is any way to get them to turn off reliably after X amount of minutes. Please help.
