Switchbot Blind Tilt

I have a Hubitat C7 and had some questions about the Switchbot Blind Tilt (Amazon.com: SwitchBot Blind Tilt Motorized Blinds - Smart Electric Blinds with Bluetooth Remote Control, Solar Powered, Light Sensing Control, Add Hub Mini to Make it Compatible with Alexa & Google Home : Home & Kitchen).

  1. Can I directly integrate the blind tilt with hubitat without using the switchbot hub? It mentions matter support but I'm not clear if I need the hub for that.
  2. Ultimately I'd like to expose the blind tilt to google home via hubitat. Is that possible?

There is also this 3-pack which comes with a hub mini: Amazon.com: SwitchBot Smart Electric Motorized Blinds Kit - 3Pack with 2.4G WiFi Remote Control, Solar Powered, Compatible with Alexa, Google Home and Siri, Light Sensing Control, Unlimited Group Control : Tools & Home Improvement.

Thanks

You need the hub as it's BT to the blinds.
I have had them for about a year and they have been working great, especially after the firmware upgrades.
They co-exist with my iBlinds as I was too lazy to crack the headers open and remove the wands.

I'm in 2 story house, would I need a hub for each room since it's Bluetooth? And does the hub then integrate directly with hubitat?

Hub integrates through a community driver but it uses the SwitchBot API.
I did have my SB hub 7 meters away for a while but I moved it closer as I was getting the odd comms issue.
I do have 2 Blink hubs and the HE in the same room so it's a bit of an RF crowd.
Hub works fine hidden in the kitchen closer to the blinds.
Not sure how the hub communicates back to the HE, WiFi I think.

You can integrate the blinds directly to Hubitat with Matter. Make sure the hub you get has Matter.

Interesting. I have no Matter devices and have stayed away due to all the dubious integration methods as it matures.
As I understand it I have to join it to say, Google, get a code and associate it with HE; the method I can certainly look up.
From there it doesn't use the cloud API anymore? I don't see that happening but tell me I'm wrong and make me happy I can get rid of my only cloud dependence.
Joining with the SwitchBot driver is just an alternate means to integration if you don't have Matter enabled. No?

It is the Matter hub you associate with HE. I use @kkossev Matter bridge driver for that. Then the blinds are showing as sub devices in Hubitat.

Ah, didn't know there was an app for making HE act as a Matter hub now.
Still, we have the calls to China and back or are we local with this?
The limited bridge Readme's are unclear but the drivers may indicate it's now direct and local.
If so I have another Todo!

Matter is local. You bridge the Matter Switchbot hub to Hubitat with @kkossev bridge driver. You will need the Switchbot hub 2 to get Matter support.

From Switchbot support:

Hub Mini can not support Matter with its current hardware configuration. You would need purchase Hub 2 to support SwitchBot Matter device.

Rats, I have a Hub Mini. :frowning:
Thanks for saving me the attempt at frustration.

How old is your hub mini? They now sell a hub mini with Matter enable.

Probably 1.5 years.
The Hub 2 is overkill as I don't need the display and sensors; all that is part of my HE system.
Seems a bit unclear. US sites offer a Matter Mini but not CDN sites, Switchbot.ca store says NO. Maybe not approved here yet.

Will Hub Mini be supported with Matter over the air? Unfortunately not. Hub Mini can not support Matter with its current hardware configuration. You would ...

I would recommend either the iblinds v3-z-wave (www.myiblinds.com)

or

The E-Wand (zigbee) (www.myewand.com)

over the fingerbot stuff

...is about 85$ CDN. The swichtbot hub 2 is 89$ CDN.

I have 5 iBlinds.
Went for the SB as a test as they were 50% off last year on BF.

Been really happy with the iblinds v3, we have 13 of them so far. (Need another 10). Have one e-wand in the bedroom that works well.
