I have a 4 way that I've had troubles with. The smart dimmer failed (2 lights on, 2 off, switch not working). So I'm going to go in more prepared this time. I'm pretty sure line/load are in seperate boxes, so I'll confirm line with my multi, connect the wires and find load.
I normally use inovelli/Zooz switches, but I know those typically work better with line/load in the same box. If they are not, what is the recommended combo to use?
Easily the main Waf switch in the house, so I want to be prepared when I dive in.
Also, air gap pull circuit on/off didn't fix it
Line/load in the same box? Honestly source power is source power line shouldn't matter neither should neutral they all end up back at the same breaker box. Maybe I'm missing something but I know i could take line & any neutral from an outlet from separate boxes and the switch would work with no problems. I just wouldn't want things like that because of safety reasons, the breakers would be like wtf if they are using separate breakers. either way Load has no idea where your getting power from and doesn't care what box it's coming from. just make sure all the wires your using are connected to the same breaker. You can get away with different neutral wires if your breakers aren't smart breakers and connect directly to the neutral bus bar.
Sorry, i may have communicated it wrong.
I know sometimes on 3 or 4 way depending on neutral availability and other factors, you may have to buy a 2nd 'smart' switch depending on line/load available for a light in a single gang box.
I see zooz/inovelli both have some diagrams that show for both of these scenario's (line/load for one switch vs line one switch & load another switch). I may have been mistaken, thinking it was more complicated than it really was.

I remember glancing at those Inovelli wiring diagrams, make sure to read them 5 times because they list different scenarios for like the same diagram if i remember correctly.
