Support for new Third Reality R1 mmWave sensor?

Third Reality has a new battery powered mmWave sensor and I’m curious if it will be compatible with Hubitat.

TR already stated it is compatible with Hubitat.

With this being. 5.8G device is there fear it will be overly sensitive like the other devices in this range or. I misunderstanding the reason for the 24G like the Linptechs?

5.8G and 24G are different frequency bands with different reflection and penetration characteristics, but the potential over-sensitivity issues depend on how well the firmware in the device handles the signals.

For now I am not going to buy one, I already have too many mmWave sensors ...

Same here I have more than I need. I still have one new in the box as a spare. I just noticed on the 5G devices I tried in the past they were way over sensitive and you really couldn't tune them in. Sounds like that was more of a device issue than the frequency.

These sensors have a sensitivity adjustment and run on 3 AA batteries. They act more like traditional motion sensor.

Are you speaking from experience with them on HE? If so, what driver are you using? Generic Zigbee Motion Sensor?

Generic Zigbee Motion Sensor (no temp) is the recommended driver from the manual.

Otherwise, not much useful documentation.

I installed one of these yesterday. This is the first mmWave sensor I have installed. My initial first impression is a little disappointment. The mmWave doesn’t seem to add much to detecting presence with minimal movement. It acts like a motion sensor with a long delay to clear motion. I will continue to try different sensitivities and placement to see if I get better results in my use case.

Typically, a mmWave sensor requires a lot of tinkering to make it work as expected - choosing the proper sensitivity, limiting the minimum and the maximum detection areas, pointing it toward the direction where a human usually stays still for a long time, and at the same time pointing it away from the possible sources of interferation. There are a lot of settings/preferences that need to be tweaked ...

I have a driver customized for the ThirdReality Motion sensors. For the R1 sensor, you can only adjust the timeout setting. The sensitivity and led adjustments have to be done physically on the device. For the standard PIR sensor you can adjust the leds and the timeout setting. Use these at your own risk  I've only had the R1 for a couple days so it is not fully tested.

Both sensors can be a little....finicky when you are messing with the settings. Sometimes they take a few seconds to respond and it seems like sometimes they get stuck "active" until you resart them with a battery pull. But once they are set they seem to work well. I love the short timeouts

**also firmware Ver 43 (1233-D3A1-00000043) or higher is needed for the PIR sensor options to work.
