I don’t agree with that assessment. None of the options below are perfect and have caveats, but there are local options. In addition to Sonos as already mentioned above.
This custom driver can be used to control a RPI (or other Linux device) on your network.
It has been developed in a completely generalized way, so that any Linux command may be executed on this device.
Please see the description for how this driver (and the accompanying Linux code) was actually used to implement a local TTS device, at a very reasonable cost.
This was developed by @erktrek and all the kudos should go to him.
This was tested extensively by @aaiyar who assisted in the developme…
For people looking for integration between Hubitat and Mycroft or Neon, I have made a start. I am more trying to get it to work to pass links to VLC on my computer which then I use to play sounds through Alexa. Looks like everything should be working, and I know my VLC server is working as it functions with ST. Looks like it authenticates, but nothing happens on VLC. Logs just show, no connection. I don't have much knowledge of HTTP headers and I am thinking its som…
That would be a waste of their time and our money, IMO. The hub would still need to call out to AWS for the initial TTS file. And then the announcement would be played over a small, tinny-sounding speaker built into the hub? No thank you…
