Hello, I am looking to get a few strip lights. I prefer z-wave but would start a zigbee mesh with a good cheaper option. If I buy an unsupported unit can i use a generic driver and get full functionality thru HE or do I need another proprietary hub?
Check out the Zooz ZEN31.
I think the brand is RGB Genie or siimilar, that is supported and is Z-Wave. Search on that
I'd also look at Lifx... Native integration
I’ve been happy with the Inovelli Smart led LED Strips. They are discontinued, but are still in stock. They meet your Z-Wave requirement and can do both color and tuneable white (which is the reason I bought them). The RGB LEDs are individually addressable, but there are only a few available pattern options. The White LEDs are not individually addressable.
A Zigbee 3.0 controller should work well and can be used with some cheap generic light strips would likely be cheaper, depending on what you need. There are some good options on Amazon and AliExpress.
I have both of these options installed at home and am happy with them.
Thank you for the ZEN31 recommendation. This is the route I went and is working well!
