Static IP for Lutron integration

Do NOT set a STATIC IP address on the HE Hub. That only leads to problems down the road if something else change within your home network. We have seen many posts of users who have incorrectly configure the static IP section on their HE hubs, which has lead to a lot of hair pulling troubleshooting.

I am a simplifier, and I try to target my suggestions to the audience. Not all in this thread have done that, as many assume that users have a decent understanding of TCP/IP networking.

When using DHCP Reservations, the router will still need to use IP addresses from the DHCP Address range. In this scenario, all of the devices in the DHCP Reservation section need to be configured (on the device itself) to use DHCP to obtain an IP address.

When using STATIC IP Addresses, one must modify the actual device settings (e.g within the Lutron App or the Hubitat web page you showed above.) In this case, the IP addresses used must be outside the DHCP address range your router is assigning to other devices on your home network, to avoid an IP address conflict.

My strong recommendation, as mentioned in my earlier post, is to use DHCP for all of your devices. Then, using the DHCP Address Reservation feature of your router, make sure that your Lutron and Hubitat hubs are listed in that section. This will prevent their IP addresses from changing.

The reason I suggest this is to make your life much easier in the future. Right now, your router is using the 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.255 address range for you home LAN. Not all routers default to this IP address range. Thus, in the future WHEN you replace your home router, the new one might use 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.255 address range. When this happens, you will be wondering why you can no longer access your Lutron and Hubitat hubs if they are still using old static IP addresses from the first router's default LAN settings. Even accessing the Lutron and HE hubs will be problematic. However, if they set up to use DHCP, they will get new addreses automagically from your new router. You will still need to go in and configure a DHCP reservation for both of them on the new router, but at least your latop/tablet/phone will be able to connect to them.

I hope this helps.

Please follow @ogiewon’s suggestions on setting a DHCP reservation.

Do not set a static address on your Hubitat, or assign it an IP address that is outside the DHCP scope of your TP-Link router. Also do not set a static address on the Lutron bridge. Rather, give it a DHCP reserved address as well.

Quoting this because it may have gotten lost in the mix. OP was probably trying to set DHCP reservations all along, not ARP bindings.

And I agree with the suggestions to use DHCP reservations, not static IP assignments, particularly for users that are not extremely knowledgeable about IP networking.
