I know Matter is/will eventually and the market is flooded with WIFI plugs, but I need zigbee to improve my outdoor mesh for my holiday lights. So I go to trust Amazon where I've bought everything else and... there's nothing. Not one outdoor zigbee plug.
I've had to get some plastic outdoor containers and put an indoor switch outside and it works, but is this the end of Zigbee?
There's also less and less indoor switches daily as well. Anyone have any luck or a good alternative source for Zigbee purchases?
This is a somewhat related question. What surface blocks more wireless signal? Glass or wood? Without any scientific knowledge I can imagine the argument going either way. Knowing this might help people reach that far flung spot.
Also, though I don't own these items, I know Phillips makes Outdoor Light fixtures, and multiple companies make outdoor strip lights and daisy chained yard lights. In either case I am not sure what the zigbee repeating capabilities are, maybe someone here can enlighten us?
That is a pretty open-ended question. Glass might be a mirror, or even coated glass like low-e for energy efficiency. Wood could be varying thickness, and moisture levels. A sheet of plywood probably won't act the same as a heavy LVL beam. I think that you just have to factor in things like this, chicken wire plaster, heat ducts, and other items like that into your mesh when you are building your smart house. Repeaters and repeaters in the correct location are the only way to fight these various obstructions.
Anecdotally, our work building is a pole barn (steel) type construction. The windows and doors are all super thick and have energy coatings on them. You can't get a phone signal inside the building, or at least you couldn't until they put a few dedicated 4g hotspots inside the building. The metalized film on the windows and doors along with the metal building block pretty much all signals.
