Sprinklers (skydrop starting to charge monthly fee)

I just read that skydrop is going to start charging a monthly fee.

So I got thinking. skydrop or any other sprinkler controller is just a bunch of relays and a 24v power supply to open the solenoid in the valve. Why not just use hubitat to control some relays. Then I started to look for a multi relay that would support 24v have 4-8 relays and be either zwave or zigbee. I couldn't find anything.

So, I'm thinking about a raspberry pi project. I can put all the pi parts together.. and expose an REST API.

anyone interested in collaborating on a IP connected multi relay device? at that point RM could be used to build rules to water my lawn.. I could give the SO (control freak) a button to water her drip lines etc..

Wouldn't this work?

Fibaro do an rgbw controller which runs on 12/24v dc
Each of the colours can be set as a different channel
(Giving you 4 on/off per controller)

This might be worth looking at

These are also so cheap that you could use some of these with a 24v psu and some relays to swap from ac to dc switching.

This litesprite board can be integrated directly to Hubitat with the Hubduino project.
