Sorry to get off topic a bit, but I've been seeing mentions of 2.4.0 for a while. I know with the way Hubitat sets version #'s I'm expecting this to be something pretty big, especially as 2.3.9 is only on .177 so lots of room to iterate #'s otherwise. Any ETA or teaser hints you can tell us about? (Though I also know Hubitat keeps changes very close to the vest - but it's Friday and looking for some good news ).
Well.. Looking back at release dates for previous 5 betas, it typically varies around 2-5 months, with an average being around 4 months between beta releases. - So given the last 2.3.9 beta came out it mid April, your likely talking about Sept (this month) for a potential 2.4.0 beta. -
I don't think things will slide much past early Oct - As to what's in the next major release, I can only speculate, but in the past year or so, we got native HomeKit integration, limited matter support, and recently, ZWave LR. As well as visual updates in new dashboards, and visual automation.
Looking at things referenced around "fixed in V2.4.0", I'm guessing you see Matter more fleshed out (potential HE acting as a Matter bridge?, or a least adding native bridge support, support for matter event subscriptions, and matter error handling cleaned up - possible see native Matter commissioning added to the mobile app). Definitely more features/tiles added to visual dashboard, and the main one I'm unclear on, is a major potential change on Z-wave, to move to the new SiLabs SDK, and move away from the SiLabs Z-wave gateway (which has a bunch of problems, that it doesn't sound like SiLabs intends to ever fix) - That will likely a big impact on lots of reported Z-wave issues, but I don't know if that will be in this release, or something for the next one.. Again, I don't have any inside info, I'm just SWAGing based on reading comments from staff.
That's my bets - I'm guessing the next beta is getting close, within a few weeks... - We could start a betting pool on a specific date, if you really want to make this interesting..
I’m really hoping for a EZ link tile so we could nest dashboards. My other big wish would be for them to add some conditional ability to Visual Rules like If-Else-End If, For, While loops, etc.
I just want better dashboard esthetics.
I want a pony.
So why exactly is everyone thinking that the next version will be 2.4.0, it could also be 2.3.10 which means less of a major update but a bunch of smaller ones.
Staff have implied it’s coming soon in several posts over the last few weeks.
I think this is the most revealing one:
That's a good indicator for sure
Is that a local or cloud hosted pony?
Two thoughts:
-
Has HE ever released a x.x.10 version? I can’t recall it, but I’m sure it’s possible.
-
It appears to me that HE doesn’t rigidly stick to what you’re insinuating about their version nomenclature. IMHO, there have been plenty of releases of third-level (0.0.x) updates that could have been second- or even first-level.
And for bonus speculation, I think it’s been a while since we’ve had a series of stability/deep-bug-fix releases. If there’s nothing major in the near-term pipeline, it may be a good time to clean some things up. (Even more so if that Z-Wave backend fix is close.)
I guess it depends on their approach to version numbering as to whether they see the list of changes as meeting the requirements they have set for the different version levels. Not everyone adopts the same approach, some require higher level version numbers to be breaking changes, which seem rare in HE's case. It's been a while since we moved to v2, can't remember what the catalyst for that was, would need to dig deep into the Community posts for that one....
While not affecting me, I feel the raft of networking fixes being made recently could come under this category. I'll admit it hasn't been without issue, but ultimately the effort towards cleaning up some of these aspects of the underlying platform are not "sexy" but still necessary, so I am happy to still see them get some attention alongside things like a mobile App re-development, new dashboard implementation and visual rule building tool, as much as people may sometimes harshly critique these early versions of significant progression in the "sexy" parts of the platform....
All we can say is direct neural interface...... Can't say more beyond that due to NDA
It was a MASSIVE UI update. People moan about the UI but i had V1 . Think it might have even included V1 dashboard in V2 I don't think the original hub FW had "control" at all outside of GH or Alexa. It wasn't a breaking change though from memory other than i think it was a one way update.
no but there was nothing big when it went 2.2.9 to 2.3.0 it seems that's just their convention.
Dude - that horse is standing at least 17 hands tall. Assuming those are 40 ft conifers about 30 feet behind the horse.
Get @Slate a real pony .....

I should have asked for a unicorn.
IIRC, originally the philosophy of Hubitat was that needing controls indicated a failure of automation. It was entirely focused on automation, and the device pages were for debugging.
That's evolved to recognize that a lot of people perform actions by voice or by dashboard commands, thankfully.
