Solar Assistant MQTT status and Hubitat WORKING Solution - What are you using?

Hello,

I just wanted to share a solution I stumbled across that is incredibly helpful that I did NOT expect Hubitat to be a part of the solution for.

I have a solar power setup (off-grid basically) for my large workshop that runs an MPP Solar inverter and 2-1500 watt EG4 batteries that runs the whole workshop lighting, garage doors, outlets, etc. I have a solar tracker with 5-200watt panels powering the MPP inverter and batteries.

I use a Raspberry Pi running Solar Assistant software (fantastic BTW) that gives me the ability to see the status of the batteries, solar PV in, etc. and IF connected to the grid, control when to use the grid to charge the batteries up if they get too low and use cheaper power rate times.

The Solar Assistant solution has the ability to send MQTT messages that can be retrieved with a solution like MQTT Explorer or other IoT type solutions.

What I have wanted to do is be able to send the battery charge status, PV Max, etc. in some way so that if my batteries got too low I could use my generator or an extension cord to charge them back up if extended clouds, weather etc.

So I found this App on a post and tried it and be damned it WORKS !!!

So if you want to use the Hubitat to let you know your IoT type device with MQTT "Topics" and values to do something, like Pushover Alerts, SMS, Email etc.... this totally works!

So to anyone using MQTT.. What are you using it for withing Hubitat?

I used a Rule Machine to setup a "normal" Pushover Alert on any change to battery state so I can see the drain and charge status.

Let the discussion begin...
