SNZB-02P not pairing

Ok, something strange: I have had a SonOff Temperature sensor ( SNZB-02 ) running just fine for more than a year. Last week the zigbee connection seemt to be broken, as the device was not reporting temperature value's anymore. I tried to re-pair the sensor. It found the sensor as an existing sensor, and all seemed fine, but no actual value's came from the sensor. I tried pairing it again a few times, even with the keys in the clear option, but every time the same issue.

Thinking the sensor could be bust, i ordered a new one, the SonOff SNZB-02P. ( new model, zigbee 3.0 ) When it arived, I tried to pair it on the same location as the old sensor, but no luck.
"device found, initializing.." and there it stops.
next tried to do the same but holding the sensor right next to the C8 hub, but again the same message.
Tried both the "keys in the clear" & "avoid zigbee 3.0 repeater" options, but everytime the same issue.

Net I tried to pair a spare aquara temperature sensor on the same location als the old SonOff sensor, and it paired strait away, and works like a charm.

Any suggestions what might be causing this?
All my other existing SonOff sensors ( contact) seem to be running just fine.

I use my old C-7 hub in cases like this.

Tried that, same results. Only sonoff sensors fail to pair, other sensors pair fine and give sensor readings.

Tried pairing the new sensor to HA, and paired within two seconds. So it looks like a HE issue of some sort.

Figured it out -> reproducible:

  • Take battery out of the sensor
  • Short the positive and negative terminals of the sensor itself
  • Set hub in zigbee pairing mode
  • Insert battery (The sensor is now found, but not initializing)
  • Remove battery for a second
  • Re-insert battery (Initializing completes as normal)

Both the old sensor (SNZB-02) as the ne sensor (SNZB-02P) paired this way, and seem to continue to work al normal.

Still strange, as this was never needed before.

I will try it with some of my problematic Zigbee devices when I have the time.

How have these new one been holding up for you?

I cracked the case of a SNZB-02 when trying to change the battery, looking at replacing it with the newer version.

So far so good.
It’s a pain to pair, but seems stable once connected.

I’d rather have it a pain to pair than deal with the pain on changing batteries on the older version even though they perform pretty well.
