So I've been trying for a few days to use the SmartStart scanner in the app. I'm able to access my hub, add devices manually (in the app), and even get the SmartStart scanner to come up. But...
Every time it scans a QR code, it just closes and goes back to the previous screen (with the big white and green buttons). I've gotten it to add a device one time, but every time after that, it just does nothing.
I've tried multiple devices, and even QR codes that have nothing to do with Zwave. All QR codes generate the same behavior.
I've cleared storage and cache, given the app every permission it wants, uninstalled and reinstalled, but it still doesn't work. The only thing I haven't done is a factory reset of my phone (which I'm not going to do).
No, unfortunately. I've tried a few more uninstall reinstall and cache/storage dumps, but it still doesn't do anything when it scans a QR code. I've given up and just added everything I have manually.
It could be possible this is at the os level because my iOS app was doing the same thing. SmartStart would scan the QR, ask for a name and then never populate the hub... That was on .180 this last weekend.
I finally gave up and manually entered the DSK through @jtp10181 's app.
I have not tried to add anything with the newer beta release of the os... @gopher.ny
@relifram and @NicNic What app version?
There are both the 1.x and newer 2.x available on the app store right now, and the 2.x is getting a lot of updates. So really need to know what app exactly.
EDIT: I just tested it on 2.0.4 (263) (might be a beta release)
It scans the code and give no indication that it worked, but it does in fact add it to the list. It does not ask for a name or anything and it actually uses the same name as the last entry already in the list (not sure what happens if list is blank). Documented bug that has not been fixed: SmartStart used the same name/location as previously joined device for a new device - #4 by jtp10181
After you scan, try backing out of the SS list (or force quit the app) and then go back in, which should force the app to query the hub for the list again. Might be that it is working but the list is not refreshing after you scan.
I sort of gave up testing the apps, they just keep working on crashing and geofence issues, nothing else is getting fixed at the moment
I'm using 2.0.4 on Android. I didn't realize there was another version on the Play Store. I'll check that out the next time I have some Zwave devices to add. I'm certain though that mine does not silently add devices.
I initially thought it might be doing that so I had my desktop watching the device list and logs to help troubleshoot, and I never saw any activity on either when using SmartStart.
You wont see anything in logs by scanning the QR code, that just adds it to the list. That does not join the device right away. The join process happens after it is scanned and in the SS list. So if you are not even adding it to the SS list then there is nothing to see in logs.
Don't bother. The other is the old version, and smart start never worked on that version for android, you likely wont have any better results. That version is not being updated or maintained. As a matter of fact it is Scheduled to be removed.
