Smart Sound Level Monitoring

I am looking for a smart device that is able to continuously report sound level to Hubitat.
Something like a Decibel Meter Sound Level Reader but with the ability to communicate to Hubitat.

  • :loud_sound: Measurement Range: Covers a range from 30dB to 130dB, allowing for versatile sound intensity measurements. Equipped with a high-precision 1/2-inch microphone for accurate sound measurement.
  • :loud_sound: Display: Features a 4-digit display with a maximum value of 1999 for clear and accurate readouts. It includes an auto power-off feature with a disable function to conserve battery life.
  • :loud_sound: Frequency Weighting Options: It provides A, C, and Z frequency weighting options, allowing you to customize the measurement to specific frequency ranges.
  • :loud_sound: Real-time PC Connection: The device can be connected to a PC in real-time, and it is compatible with Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11-with 64 bits OS. It is capable of recording up to 1999 groups of data.
  • :loud_sound: Adjustable Upper and Lower Limits: You can set upper and lower limits for sound intensity measurements, and the device will trigger a buzzer and light alarm if these limits are exceeded.

Are these the specs of a specific device you’d like to integrate?

They are the specs of a typical standalone meter I found on amazon.

There are several guides for the ESP Home decibel meter. You can either figure out how to get that working with HE or set it up on Home Assistant Device Bridge to bring the reading back to HE.

I don't find anything out there that integrates more functionality than decibel level.

Not sure how many decibel meters with built-in z-wave, zigbee or WiFi are out there.

The most likely integration point for a device like the one you linked to is probably from the PC software it’s logging to.

Seems like Home Assistant with ESP Home is a simple option and certainly it has the right price. This is the best that I could find with respect to wireless (Bluetooth in this example) connectivity. But it is a standalone system and tied to a vendor app on a phone.

I did find some commercial / industrial style products for studio type applications but they are in the $600 range and not geared towards consumer deployments for smart home.

Seems like a product market opportunity for someone like AeoTec, AirThings, Aqara, Ecowitt Fibaro, Govee, etc. who all seem to be collecting a pile of other environmental variables for a smart home. Unfortunately, I do have a sensor of some type for each of those vendors.

Kinda depends on how you feel about doing your own soldering :slightly_smiling_face:.
