Smart Bulbs - High Lumens, not Zigbee

Hi All,

Just looking for a recommendation if such a thing exists. I am looking to to replace the bulbs in my yard with some high wattage (but standard size) bulbs. Might seem simple but here's my predicament..

  1. Can't use Zigbee. Sadly, my house hates zigbee and while i've done just about everything to get zigbee stuff working properly, they just don't for me.. It might be that i'm blanketing the neighborhood with wifi, or who knows what... but things just go unavailable after a few days, and yes, tried repeaters, moving bulbs to hue hubs, changing channels, etc.. Anyway, not looking to solve my zigbee problem, maybe i'll solve it eventually, but for now i'm avoiding it (especially outside)

  2. Can't replace the switch/fixture. I actually use lutron, zwave and zigbee switches around the house (zigbee and zwave were mostly to be used as repeaters), but in this case, the outside lights have power plugs in them that are running my cameras, so replacing the fixture or the socket isn't an option.

I did have some zwave bulbs that are rgb that i picked up and work fine for now, but obviously being rgb and 800 lumens, they aren't really usable for a yard.

Prefer something 100w, but I can settle for 75w equiv. ( i realize wattage doesn't equate to lumens, but i just know 800 lumens, especially rgb, doesn't cut it)... Would prefer just white, dimmable bulbs. Don't care if it's zwave or wifi, those both work, but I can't seem to find anything that works with hubitat at that wattage.

Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.

LIFX has 1100 lumen RGB WiFi bulbs, plus other lighting products. There is a community driver for LIFX.

I had mixed experience with the one I had; others seem to have good luck. Search the community for other's experiences.

Can you use a zwave plus bulb? Not as fast as a zigbee bulb, but not bad, either:
https://www.amazon.com/GoControl-Bulbz-Z-Wave-Dimmable-Indoor/dp/B014D992WK/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=nortek+zwave+plus+bulb&qid=1580304386&sr=8-2

I wouldn't exactly call the 650 lumen on that GoControl bulb "high lumen" like the OP requested, though...

I don’t know of any bulbs that would fit the bill. Have you considered an in wall switch inside the box where the lamp branches off?

I’m not familiar with this particular product but something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Sonoff-Devices-required-installation-Automation/dp/B07NYP6Y65/ref=sr_1_11

I believe that is 650 lumen Canadian. Not sure what the current exchange rate is but I'm sure the 650 is much higher in US lumens.

If you install a Aeon/Qubino/Fibaro microswitch in the bulb's work box, you could use a high intensity non-smart LED like this one:

I have a friend who just put one in his workshop and it is BRIGHT

Regarding the ZWAVE plus bulb, yeah, I can use them but not that one, it's BR30. (Plus, 650 lumens as others have pointed out).

The AEON stuff looks interesting, but that bulb wouldn't fit in my fixture (plus, as mentioned, can't swap out the wiring due to #2, or i'd just use a 100w regular bulb and call it a day)

I'll look into the LIFX stuff, that might be an option although is it really 1100 lumens? Also RGB so it's been my experience that they are not as bright as a white bulb would be. Also, seems pricey but I guess I might have much other options.

Oh, and nope, the Sonoff won't work as mentioned in #2 of my post. I use a screwon plug splitter inside the fixture that runs a power cord to my cameras, so if I switched off the power i would turn the cameras off.

If you mean the socket, it's a standard E26/E27 socket. If you're referring to the total size, these bulbs aren't meant to have any covering over them - so they can dissipate heat.

Sorry, I clarified my post after...

Ask and ye shall receive. You need to get one of these:

https://www.ebay.com/c/691401114

And then get the bulb that Jim (@JNS) linked to.

That's a z-wave lamp socket that will screw into your splitter. Only the bulb screwed into the socket will be controlled; power to your cameras will be on all the time.

Edit:

Screw eBay. They're much cheaper at TheSmartestHouse:

Here's EverSpring's catalog page for this device:

But the light is indoor only. Unless there is decent covering to protect that light it can easily be destroyed by moisture.

@brian10 Is there any reason you can't redo the fixture to add a real outlet and a real light socket. With both separated, you could do exactly what you need for each device. Unless it is some really odd situation, it couldn't take much.

Oh, cool.. that EverSpring thing might do it. Although, yeah, that one site is cheaper than ebay, but maybe not after adding shipping (unless i found $80 of stuff to buy..haha).

And yeah, @zarthan , maybe it might be best to just open up the fixture and rewire stuff up inside it.. I guess I was trying to do an easy swapout without having to shut off the power and something i could reverse easily one day.. but this would be the most economical option.

I have a few of those EverSpring sockets.
Please note that they are Zwave not Zwave Plus.

They are reliable, but not quick due to the "polling" that may be required to get their status.
