I don't see any recent discussion on this and I know everything has changed since I last logged in 6 months ago, so... why doesn't the Simple Lighting app turn on my lights at sunset? It works if I give it a time, but not sunset/sunrise. This is the third day I've had to turn it on manually, and off in the morning. I'm using Hubitat Elevation® Platform Version 2.1.7.12 Hardware Version Rev C-5
Thanks for any guidance.
Do you see anything under scheduled jobs in the morning? I think it gets populated at midnight.
This might not be helpful, but I have a Simple Lighting rule that turns on lights at sunset, and it's worked reliably for months. I can't remember the last time it failed. So maybe something else is going on? Have you checked logs?
Is your hub location set correctly?
Check hub location under settings. Ensure that it is set correctly. Check locations and mode under settings - you should have Location, time and sunrise and sunset timings under it. If all the information under that is correct, recreate the rule - that might do the trick
There were no scheduled jobs... the only thing in the logs for that rule was me finally turning the lights off manually in the morning. My hub location is set properly, the time stamps in the logs are correct for my time zone, and the listed sunrise and sunset agree with what Weather Underground has for my location. I have re-created the rule about 5 times. Finally, this time it worked. It turned them on at 5:44 pm. What changed? No idea. Now I'll see if they turn off at sunrise. Crossing fingers. Thanks for all the advice, folks.
Same Experience. Tried everything including a soft reset. Finally gave up and went to specified times. One strange thing - the sunrise and sunset times are correct but greyed out on my ios devices. They display normally under Windows.
@Dustyd5 There are not supposed to be any Scheduled Jobs for this. It subscribes to the hub's Sunset event, and you can see that in the details posted above. This fires when the hub sends that event. Look at your System Events log to see if Sunset is firing as you expect. Check your timezone setting under Location also, and possibly hit Update there.
Didn't know that, learn something new every day!
Well, last night at 5:44 it worked. But this morning at sunrise... it did nothing.
System events:
|sunsetTime||2019-12-29T23:45:00.000Z|API|2019-12-28 05:44:00.121 PM CST|
|sunset||true|API|2019-12-28 05:44:00.084 PM CST|
There are no system events for sunrise, which has come and gone... it was supposed to fire at 7:28 and it's now 7:43. I've hit that update button before. Will try it again.
Please post a screenshot (not copy paste) of the System Events page.
Well, my next experiment was to make a separate rule that just turns the lights off at sunrise. I set it up yesterday afternoon, and... nothing happened this morning. So, it doesn't work as an anti-action to "on at sunset" and it doesn't work as a stand alone rule.
Try this: Change your timezone to a different timezone, then reboot your hub. After it comes back up, change it to the correct timezone, and reboot again. Perhaps this will get your sunrise events happening correctly.
Well, now sunset has stopped working too. I'll try the reboot stuff. I'm only at this location a couple more days, so if it doesn't start working tomorrow, I'll have to abandon the quest.
Update: the re-boot while changing time zone seems to have done the trick. I'm still using two separate rules, but it's working.
