Did anyone see the launch of the new Shelly relays Gen4?
Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Bluetooth support in one device.
Anyone have any thoughts on this concept he wants to share? What could be the advantages, isn't the integration super complex of such a device, do you believe in this concept?
I'd say the advantages for the manufacturer are that they can make a single product that works with various systems (and presumably with their own app) without needing to make one device for each protocol. Matter over Wi-Fi, which I assume is the kind of Matter these devices support base on the other protocols listed, requires Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, so there's three of the four protcols they mentoned already (but presumably they mean it can also function with each protocol alone, perhaps BT or Wi-Fi via their app and Wi-Fi via their traditional API). Zigbee is a bit of a surprise but also not too much since can probably share a 2.4 GHz radio with at least one of these.
The only way I could see it complicating integration is in making it clear what protocol a specific driver is written for. It's quite likely Matter or Zigbee can use generic drivers or something else with minimal modifications, in which case the (direct) WI-Fi API could probably be ignored unless it offers additional features. Direct Bluetooth is unlikely to work in any case.
