Setting up manual switch but using motion sensor to turn off

So of course my kids are really bad at turning off lights. I've tried various things. Right now I have that after 10 that the lights turn off after 5 mins. This causes issues. It's hit or miss when the kids go in and start manually turning on lights and the motion sensor doing anything.

So here is what I'd like to do...

If lights are turned on manually (at the switch) then they should turn off after 5 minutes of no movement on the motion sensor.

Now @rlithgow1, why not just use motion sensor to turn them on and then wait?

Because my kids complain it won't always turn on (everytime they complain, I check logs and the unit physically and it's fine). I'm looking at this as a failsafe.

Here is my existing night time rule for the main lights)

Lmao... that is the first time I've seen someone tag themselves in their own post. LOVE IT

So are the kids fibbing? Or do they just like to find things to complain about? My kids definitely prefer the latter

Do they close the door when they're in the bathroom?
Maybe a contact sensor?

nah, they leave it open most times. Need to do this triggered off the manual lights with the motion sensor controlling turning off the lights

I've also been thinking about beam sensors.
There's only one way in and out.
Breaks down if more than one person go in though.

Assuming the motion sensor is showing as active, change your delay to a Wait for Event - Motion Inactive and stays for 5 minutes. The only way this would not work is if the motion sensor never goes active.

With the above said, you could add a timeout with the Wait so that rule will still progress even if the motion sensor doesn’t trigger. A timeout of 10 minutes would basically say the rule will progress after 10 minutes regardless of motion sensor going inactive.

How would I write the time out. I have this so far. (I am not the greatest at RM)

It’s right below the Wait. I’m on my phone, but hopefully the picture helps.
