After I setup my hub I am doing tests. The first receptacle, Zooz Zwave 10 ft from hub and worked perfectly. Second receptale 20 ft down hallway with 3 walls in between not working. So I was told that it was out of range and I needed repeaters so I bought 3 Dome extenders. First extender is outside the office in the hallway so 1 wall and 5 ft from hub second hub is in the entrance way which is attached to hallway, receptacle #1 worked. Receptacle #2 is in the same room as #1 and 13 ft diagonally with a couch in front of #1. # 3 did not work. I was told that the receptacles also act as a repeater. I place them and repeaters from hub outwards. It says from Dome a 6 way 400 ft coverage. I understand walls will reduce coverage but this is worse than the old X10 that I used to have. Also how do I know if a signal is truly getting repeated? Hope I was clear enough?
If I don't get this working my wife is going to kill me after telling her we have to get into the smarthome age. She keeps telling me I am in the smart ass age.
Update: I did a zwave repair on all 6 devices. I set #1 and #3 to come on and turn off 1 minute later. They both came on but didn't shut off. So I connected #3 in kitchen insight of #2 and tried again. Now #1 came on #2 and 3 did not and #1 hasn't shutoff. I know you guys and gals are good at this and I am willing to have a learning curve but this Simple Lighting isn't so simple. Is the Smarthing hub easier?
Once you get devices paired, place them were they will reside and leave them for at least a day in that area and if they are Z-Wave do a Z-wave repair after they are all in place. If you just moved a device and try it it may not function correctly until it has time to figure out the routing for its new location. When I started migrating all of my devices from SmartThings I started with devices closest to the hub (I had to move the hub to my locks since they do secure join) and there where a few devices (Z-Wave switches) that wouldn't pair on the first day however the next day they would since the Z-Wave network was all figured out by then so the repeaters (other Z-Wave switches) were working as they should.
Tomorrow I am going to move the hub to the closet that the hub and router reside. It will be 8 ft closer to center of house. I think this will help
