Hello. I'm very new to this. I just received my C8 Hubitat last week. I have Bali Layered Shades with Z-Wave. I purchased my shades in 2018. Do you mind telling me which shades do you have and how long you've had them? I'm trying to figure out if my shades work with the Hubitat. Thank you in advance.
Mine were early 2017 Bali AutoView, ordered from HomeDepot. I have 3x Dual Roller Shade units.
They’re all using the built-in Generic ZWave Shade driver, as this works fine for my needs.
When I bought them, I had them on a Vera, and I moved them over to Hubitat a few years ago.
I use a single, larger, power supply to run them instead of the battery boxes (or the discrete psu’s). I couldn’t be fuss’d changing the batteries every 6-9 mo.
Occasionally, one of the motors will jam and need intervention. It makes a noise, then stops with the Red LED. It’s reasonably rare though.
They’re all set with rules to auto-open/close multiple times throughout the day…. So they defo get a workout
What step-by-step instructions did you use to connect your blinds to Hubitat?
May I ask how you are using them on a single power supply? That would be great if I could do that. Batteries are expensive nowadays.
@BEELEW It's been 6 yrs since I did that migration, so I don't recall the step-by-step install.
The key notes are:
- use the Doc that came with the Blinds
- unpair them from Vera first, since I had them already paired prior to Hubitat.
- my devices are older, so I brought the Hubitat (1) close to each blind to do the pairing, using a long Ethernet/Power cable, and the doc that came with the Blinds
- I paired the remotes also (2)

My custom PSU (3) looks a LOT like the one they have in the Bali/Graber/SWF Docs link. I don't have access to it right now, but I also used a Meanwell PSU, fuses for each run, and a set of long USB Cables. I don't remember the specs on all these, but the voltages (etc) matched those of the individual PSU's that came with the Blinds.
The newer battery packs seem be be rechargeable, so that might be an option.
Caveats:
- Most of my Z-Wave devices at that time didn't have NWI
I was cutting over all devices so I assumed bring Hubitat to the Device for ZWave Inclusion(s) - Turns out this isn't necessary, since I've never used the remotes
These were eventually unpaired, and created a bunch of Ghosts...which were hard to cleanup (eventually needing ZWave-JS, to stop the legacy ZWave engine from crashing during ghost-removal) - If the vendor has a pre-built multi-PSU I would have bought that instead
